Is this the right career for you?

Medical Massage therapy is an inherently enjoyable and rewarding profession. From the ability to set your own schedule to the readily available travel opportunities, the flexibility of this career path is limited only by individual preference. Design your career path and leave work happy!

Owing to the innately relaxing nature of the massage industry, Medical Massage Therapists are rarely confined to offices and cubicles. Instead, these professionals often work in spas, resorts, wellness retreats, and even cruise ships! Additionally, hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and sports/fitness facilities are typical employers of LMTs who are looking for a more traditional work experience.

Ohio was the first state to license the practice of massage, and the first applicant was licensed in 1916. Ohio is unique in that it defines massage therapy as a “limited branch of the practice of medicine.”

Whether self-employed or working for an established institution, licensed massage therapists can expect to earn an average base pay of $46,910 per year. More detailed information is available at the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).

Western Massage Therapy Program

When I first decided that I wanted to be a massage therapist, I had no idea how much time and effort the schooling would take. The instructors and administrative staff at AIAM are THE BEST, HANDS DOWN!

My advice to all the students, no matter which program you are in, is: if you need help, ask. This is a field that is always changing, and the most gratifying thing for me when I finish a massage is the smile on my client’s face and the relief they experience. That warms my heart and lets me know that I made the right career choice. Who knew that touch could be so powerful?

Currently, I work at a massage place in my hometown. I love it, and I am really looking forward to building my clientele and helping people in my community and beyond. So, what’s my advice? My advice is to stay the course. I wish every one of you nothing but the absolute best, and remember, you can do this!
