Michael Quinichett, LMT, CNMT
Stage Actor to Massage Therapy?
Michael has been a professional stage actor for 10 years, performing across the United States from Florida to Montana and places in-between. So why massage therapy? “Well, they both are physical jobs and they also allow me to travel” Michael replies. “Those two core aspects make me happy. Also, they are each therapeutic for both our body and our minds.”
“I chose AIAM because of it’s stellar reputation, and because of the additional NMT certification” Michael says. He adds that he really enjoyed the small class atmosphere, which allowed for very personal instruction. “The faculty, staff, and administration at AIAM work so hard for their students, which in turn creates a sense of responsibility for me to work hard for them and soak up all of the knowledge out of their brains” Michael gleefully states.
Michael offers some words of advice for current (and prospective) WMT students on preparing for the MBLEX. “First, breathe. You’re gonna pass it. If you’ve made it to 4th quarter, you’ll be fine.” He says to pay attention to NMT terminology, and take advantage of the practice quizzes in MBLEX Review. “A lot of questions are worded similarly to those quizzes.” Lastly, there may be a number of questions that you don’t know the answers to. “Prepare for that, and don’t let it throw you,” he states. “There were probably at least 10 questions that I had no idea what the answer was. Breathe…you’ll be fine.”
Transition from school to the world
Sheri Gunn, LMT, AIAM alumnus, and Owner at Open Sky Day Spa in Grandview Heights, Ohio, has been a tremendous resource for Michael. Over half of the LMT’s at OSDS are AIAM alumni, and the spa has a great reputation for taking care of their clients.
Michael has also started his own traveling massage therapy business, Q’s Mobile Massage. Thanks to his education at AIAM, he now can travel the country, providing therapy, on and off stage.
