The Western Massage Therapy Program of the American Institute
of Alternative Medicine is a 750-hour curriculum designed
to thoroughly prepare students for an entry level career in
therapeutic massage as a Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT).
The State Medical Board of Ohio governs the scope of practice
and licensing components of the program.
The program can be completed in one academic year (9 months) consisting
of 3 twelve week quarters of 21 hours of class a week for students on the accelerated
full-time schedule. A 2.5 GPA is recommended for
this program. Students may also elect a part-time schedule and complete
the program in 12 months consisting of 4 twelve-week quarters
of 16 hours of class a week. Both curricula are the same.
The curriculum includes Massage Therapy and related studies; Bio-Medical Science related
material and Clinical Training. Inherent in the curriculum is training for
certification in Neuromuscular Therapy.
Upon completion of the program, students receive a diploma,
which allows them to apply to the Ohio State Medical Board
for the licensed massage therapy examination. Students passing
this exam are granted an Ohio State Medical Board Limited
Practitioners Certificate that allows them to practice
therapeutic massage and treat disorders of the human body.
