Professional Development Related Courses
(Acupuncture Only)


3103 AP Counseling 30 hours/ 3.0 credits
This course presents methods to assist students in developing the communications and counseling skills used in daily practice by health care providers. Techniques for establishing rapport with patients are one major focus. Effective listening/communication skills are also emphasized. This course will primarily be experiential in format. Upon completion, students are expected to demonstrate basic competence in the skills and techniques reviewed in this course.
(Prerequisite: 2107AW)

3201 AP A Medical Ethics & Professional Issues 30 hours/ 3.0 credits
This course is the first of a two-part discussion on the standards of professional behavior and conduct, as well as appropriate interpersonal behavior, and examines legal compliance, laws, and regulations governing the practice of acupuncture in the U.S. with special emphasis on Ohio. HIPPA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) is included. Patient confidentiality and cultural differences, as well as potential offenses to patients are also covered. The first part of these discussions will be focused on preparation for clinical studies.

3201 AP B Medical Ethics & Professional Issues10 hours/ 1.0 credit
