Academic Advising
The Dean of Faculty and Director of Administration
provide academic advising services to students.
Alternative Medicine Services
Current students receive a $5 discount on health care services
at the acupuncture intern clinic and the massage student clinic.
Book Store
The AIAM Bookstore is open to the public and carries
massage tables, massage chairs, books, clinic shirts, and
supplies. Required and optional textbooks are available for purchase.
There are no provisions for refunds for books. Books can be sold to another
student.
Computer Access
AIAM provides computer access in the Student Lounge for all currently enrolled students. Several tutorial software packages
have been installed which may prove helpful while in your course of study here at AIAM. Microsoft Word, Excel, and
Powerpoint are available. Each workstation also has Internet Explorer installed to aid students in searching the World Wide Web for
information related to coursework at AIAM, related topics and job placement.
Use of the workstations is a privilege, and AIAM reserves the right to revoke student access at any time should abuse
of this privilege become apparent.
Should you find software you believe woud be beneficial if installed on the student workstation(s), please forward your
request to the Dean of Faculty. We will evaluate your request and make every effort to add products that will benefit the student
body.
AIAM reserves the right to change the access information at any time deemed necessary, and will notify students at that time.
The current username and password are provided to all students at the beginning
of each quarter.
Counseling
AIAM students in need of personal counseling should contact the Director of Administration
who wil refer students to appropriate mental health facilities. Brochures are also
available.
Disability Services
AIAM offers a limited range of support services for persons with disabilities who are accepted into
the school. Support services are made available to qualified students with a documented disability. Determination
of eligibility for support services is based on disability documentation from appropriate medical, educational,
and psychological sources received by the Admissions Office at the time a student submits an application, or by the
Dean of Faculty at the time the need for support services becomes evident for current students.
These support services include, but are not limited to, one hour free tutoring weekly, adapted testing procedures (longer
time, exams read to student, exams recorded, aid for marking exams, private room for taking exam), materials in alternate
media, and guidance on securing textbooks on tape.
Students needing supportive services are encouraged to provide the appropriate official documentation as early
as possible in the application process so that appropriate accommodations can be arranged. Should a student need
supportive services beyond the scope of those provided by AIAM, the student might incur a personal cost
for the provision of these services.

Job Placement
AIAM regularly receives job opening notices from diverse businesses seeking
massage therapists and acupuncturists. This information is distributed electronically in a Job Flash to
graduates with e-mail addresses every Monday. AIAM does not guarantee placement.
Liability Insurance
American Institute of Alternative Medicine provides Student
Blanket Professional Liability Insurance for students that
covers students during all authorized school activities. Students
should still plan to purchase their own individual liability insurance
to cover their practice away from school premises. Information will be
provided during class.
Library
The AIAM library stocks over 800 reference books, magazines, DVDs, CDs, videos and
cassette tapes of various bodywork styles that correlate with guest
lecturer topics as well as anatomy, physiology, massage, Chinese Massage Therapy and acupuncture. Students
may use these resources as well as a computer with instructional
software in the student lounge while in the building. The library
is located in the Administrative wing. Students wishing to check out AIAM library
resources must complete the Library Sign-Out Sheet. Library resources may be checked out
for a 2-week period through the front desk or the Administrative Assistant. If the item(s)
are not returned within 2 weeks, a daily fee of $1.00 per item will be assessed. After 30
days if the item is not returned, the student's credit card or student account will be
immediately charged $50 or the replacement cost of the item, whichever is greater. Video
surveillance cameras are in use at all times in the AIAM library.
AIAM also has established a borrowing relationship for AIAM students through The Ohio
State University Health and Sciences Library. To use the OSU library, AIAM students must
present valid identification including your AIAM student id. Every 10 weeks AIAM must provide
OSU with a list of current students. If your name is not on the list, you will not be able to
borrow OSU library resources.
Once an AIAM student receives their OSU courtesy card, they can use the OHIO Link, which allows students
to borrow up to 5 books from any university library within the State of Ohio.
Lodging
Lodging is available at many nearby hotels and motels. Direct your
inquiries to the Administrative Assistant.
Mailboxes
Student mailboxes are located in the west wing student lounge. Students
are encouraged to check them regularly.
Parking
All currently enrolled students will be issued an AIAM parking pass upon registering their vehicle(s) with the
school. The parking permit must hang on the rearview mirror so it is visible from the front of the car. A&W Towing, 5075 Sinclair
Road, Columbus, Ohio, will tow cars found in the AIAM parking lot
without a permit at the owner's expense.
A form to register your vehicle(s) is distributed at orientation and is available from the Administrative Assistant.
During the day, students may park in the AIAM parking lot and the Quality Inn rear parking lot (1001 Schrock Road). Parking
during the evening is permitted in these areas as well as in any of the ARC Industries parking slots (6633 Doubletree Avenue).
As is needed, additional parking may be available at other off-site locations and will be announced to students. Failure to
display your AIAM parking permit or parking illegally will result in your car being towed at your expense from off-site
locations as well.
Student Badges
In an effort to keep the facility safe, all students, faculty, staff, and visitors at the American Institute of
Alternative Medicine must wear a visible photo ID or temporary visitor or student ID. Students forgetting their badge must visit
the reception desk and check out a temporary student ID in exchange for a valid Ohio driver's license or
identification card. This will be returned when the temporary ID badge is returned. In the evening, this must
be returned to the receptionist prior to the front desk closing. Lost IDs or expired IDs may be replaced in the
Administrative Office for $10.
While working in the student clinic, students should not wear their student ID. Massage therapy students will wear the
AIAM issued t-shirts. Acupuncture students will wear the AIAM acupuncture clinic nametags. Please consult with the
clinic supervisor for ID guidelines during clinic.
Student Council
AIAM Student Council provides a forum for student concerns and recommendations to be
shared with school administrators. Each class is encouraged to select a delegate and
alternate for Student Council. Names should be forwarded to the Director of Administration.
Minutes from the Student Council meetings will be posted on the Student Council bulletin
board as well as distributed by email. Student Council meetings are held
four times a year.
Student Lounge
The student lounge at AIAM provides a relaxing environment for students while at AIAM. The lounge
is equipped with comfortable furniture and complimentary healing arts literature. vending machines and
personal computers are located within close proximity of the student lounge.
Student E-Mail Addresses
Upon admission, all AIAM students are required to have a working e-mail address
on file with the school. Any student needing assistance with setting up a Yahoo
or Hotmail account can see the Registrar or Administrative Assistant.
Table Purchases
Current students receive a discount on massage table purchases
through the AIAM Shop. Should a table purchased through the
school break, AIAM will loan a table to the person until their
table is repaired.
Transcripts/Diplomas
Upon graduation, students receive a complimentary official copy
of their transcript. Students may request a transcript at any time.
A copy of transcripts or diplomas will be provided to students
and
graduates for a $10 charge upon written request and five (5) working
days notice to the Registrar.
Tutoring
AIAM offers individual or group tutoring to eligible learners. Either AIAM instructors
or AIAM graduates with proven proficiency in the subject area provide tutoring. The purpose
of the tutoring program is to supplement learners' academic performance to improve or enhance
their grade(s). Tutoring is provided on a first come first served basis in half hour sessions. Students
are not guaranteed a tutor. Sign up sheets are posted in the student lounge with priority given to
those students who have failed an exam. For a current list of tutors available for a fee, please see the
