Every year in the United States, millions of people find relief and
healing through natural treatments and approaches based in Alternative
Medicine with centuries of history from different cultures. At the
American Institute of Alternative Medicine (AIAM), we embrace the rich diversity of these
healing modalities.
Originally opened as a school for the training of massage therapists,
the scope of study at AIAM has broadened to include both Eastern and
Western philosophies. Students may now attend AIAM and receive comprehensive
professional level training in Western Massage Therapy including Swedish massage
and Neuromuscular Therapy, Chinese Massage Therapy, or Acupuncture.
Acupuncture and Chinese Massage Therapy are both central components of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Traditional Chinese Medicine, whose emphasis is upon treating the whole person as an energetic system,
is one of the fastest growing and most widely accepted new health care professions in the west.
The American Institute of Alternative Medicine leads the way in the
midwest United States in providing an educational environment that
integrates the best that eastern and western healing modalities have
to offer. AIAMs new programs in Acupuncture and Chinese Massage Therapy are the
first in the State of Ohio and the only ones offered at an accredited institution
within an eight hour drive from Columbus.
AIAM is committed to providing the highest quality of education possible.
Graduates from the massage therapy programs take the State of Ohio Medicial Board
licensing exam and/or the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB)
exam. Additionally, Chinese Massage Therapy program graduates may also take the National Certification Commission for
Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) Asian Bodywork Certificate Exam. Passing the NCBTMB or
NCCAOM exams enables graduates to practice massage therapy or bodywork in many states. Graduates
from the acupuncture program take NCCAOM exams which, upon passing, enable graduates to practice
acupuncture in many states. We strive, through
our extensive curriculum, which emphasizes hands-on clinical approaches,
to prepare prospective practitioners in Western massage, Chinese Massage Therapy and
Acupuncture. At the heart of our programs is the desire to help graduates
treat the body, mind and spirit of each client.
